The "Run! The E&M World!" City Orienteering Competition organised by the Hong Kong E&M Trade Promotion Working Group, which was formed by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and the electrical and mechanical industry, was held today (December 17) to promote the industry to the general public and enhance youngsters' interest in joining the workforce. It received an overwhelming response, with more than 450 participants.
Officiating at the starting ceremony of the Competition, the Acting Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, Mr Alfred Sit, said that the Hong Kong E&M Trade Promotion Working Group, which was set up in 2012, is committed to promoting the electrical and mechanical industry and its sustainable development. Apart from school and community talks, the Working Group organises career expos to provide recruitment information. He thanked the member organisations of the Working Group for organising the Competition and looked forward to their continued concerted efforts in taking the industry forward.
During the "Run! The E&M World!" City Orienteering Competition, participants were required to visit locations related to a number of electrical and mechanical organisations and the trade within a specified time. These locations included a government vehicle workshop, the Kai Tak District Cooling System, the Water Supplies Department's Hong Kong and Islands Regional Office, the training centre of the Construction Industry Council, the Youth College of the Vocational Training Council, electrical substations, a gas off-take station, an MTR substation, a bus depot, electrical and mechanical supplies and fire equipment shops, and lift facilities.
