Update on cluster of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus cases in Tuen Mun Hospital
******************************************************************************************
Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of infants confirmed to be carriers of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital gave the following update today (November 25):
In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital has performed enhanced surveillance and confirmed four more babies (three male and one female, aged 31 days to 52 days) today as MRSA carriers but without symptoms. The babies are now being treated under isolation. While one is in serious condition due to underlying illness, the others are in stable condition.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up. The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation.
