Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected liquid cocaine of about $8.5 million (with photo)

Acting on information, Customs officers conducted anti-narcotics operation at Hak Pai Tsai Village at Fanling. Customs officers intercepted two men who were offloading five barrels from a lorry to a tin shack nearby. Upon examination of the five barrels, palm oil was found inside and suspected liquid cocaine was found concealed inside the false compartment at the bottom. Later, with the aid of the Fire Services Department, 1.5kg of suspected liquid cocaine was found concealed in each barrel. A total of 7.5kg of suspected liquid cocaine was seized.
The two arrestees include a 44-year-old man claimed to be a transportation worker and a 30-year-old man claimed to be unemployed. The case is still under investigation.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
