Security Bureau reminds the public to remain vigilant against phone scams

The Security Bureau has recently received public enquiries pertaining to receipt of pre-recorded phone calls purportedly from the bureau asking the recipient to collect mail or suggesting that the recipient was involved in a crime case. The call recipients were also requested to provide information by following certain instructions.
The spokesman said that the Security Bureau will not make any pre-recorded voice calls to members of the public or request call recipients to provide personal information. The Security Bureau also reminded members of the public that they should not simply rely on the information quoted by the caller, including information on offices, telephone numbers, facsimile numbers or staff numbers, to establish identity.
Members of the public should remain vigilant and verify the identity of the caller when they receive a suspicious phone call, and should not readily disclose their personal information to others. If there is any doubt about the call, they should immediately report it to the Police.
