Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine at airport (with photo)

The arrested man arrived at Hong Kong from Peru via Brazil and Dubai yesterday. During Customs clearance, Customs officer found inside his check-in backpack a computer bag, a vest and a sleeping bag. Thorough examination lead to the discovery of about 7 500 grams of suspected cocaine soaked in the interlining of the hip belt of the backpack and the interlining of above mentioned items found inside the backpack.
The arrested man, aged 48 and claimed to be a carpenter, will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (September 26).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
