The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam, continued his visit in Wellington, New Zealand, today (September 22) and met with various government officials and representatives to exchange views on election-related matters and parliamentary operation.

     Mr Tam held separate meetings with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the New Zealand Parliament, Mr David Carter; the Leader of the House, Mr Gerry Brownlee; and the Minister of Local Government, Mr Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, at Parliament House to get first-hand knowledge about the operation of New Zealand's Parliament and matters concerning its local councils.

     He also met with the Chief Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission, Mr Robert Peden, and was briefed on New Zealand's electoral system and election arrangements. They also exchanged views on election-related matters including the voter registration system and voting arrangements.

     Earlier in the day, Mr Tam paid a courtesy call on the Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand, Mr Wang Lutong.

     Mr Tam will depart for Auckland in the evening. He will attend a breakfast meeting organised by the Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association and meet with the Mayor of Auckland, Mr Len Brown, tomorrow.
