Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cannabis buds (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (August 5) seized a total of about 1.2 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds at Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal and arrested one man. The market value of the drugs was about $170,000.
Customs officers examined two outgoing express parcels declared as “speakers” and found the suspected cannabis buds concealed inside four speakers at Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal.
The follow-up investigation by customs officers led to the arrest of the man in Kwai Chung.
The arrested man, aged 38 and claimed to be unemployed, will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates’ Courts on Monday (August 8).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
