LCSD swimming facilities remain open in general
***********************************************
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) spokesman said that the strike by some lifeguards today (July 17) resulted in the temporary closure of certain swimming pools and beaches due to insufficient lifeguards being on duty. However, with more than 85 per cent of the lifeguard colleagues remaining steadfast in performing duties, and with assistance from the Hong Kong Life Saving Society, venue-based lifeguard clubs and the Auxiliary Medical Service as well as other staff of the department, most of the swimming pools and beaches of the LCSD remained open today.

Among the 42 LCSD swimming pools in operation, all remained fully or partially opened. Out of the 38 beaches with lifesaving services, 34 beaches were in full operation and four beaches had their lifesaving services suspended. All water sports centres were also in full operation today.

The spokesman thanked the 1 445 lifeguard colleagues who remained steadfast in performing duties as well as over 190 honorary lifeguards and Auxiliary Medical Service first aiders, and all other staff of the department for rendering professional services today.
