Vanway Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited was fined $55,000 at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (June 23) for failure to pay wages and end of year payment, as required by the Employment Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The said company failed to pay wages of about $78,300 in total within seven days after the expiry of the wage periods and pro rata end of year payment of about $16,300 within seven days after the last day of the payment period to an employee, as required by the Employment Ordinance.
"The judgment will disseminate a strong message to all employers that they have to pay wages and end of year payment to employees in accordance with the Employment Ordinance," a spokesman for the Labour Department said.
"The Labour Department does not tolerate the above offences and will spare no effort in enforcing the law and protecting employees' statutory rights," the spokesman added.
