The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, hosted a high-level lunch on climate change at Government House today (June 20) for business leaders from various sectors. The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, also joined the lunch together with other relevant Policy Secretaries.
The event today provided a good dialogue platform for the Government to understand the preparation of the business sector for climate-readiness and explore collaboration on combating climate change.
The Government has been adopting a three-pronged approach, namely mitigation, adaptation and resilience, to combat climate change. Emphasis has been put on "4Ts", i.e. "Timeline", "Target", "Transparency", and "Together", when working jointly with stakeholders.
Participants at the lunch actively discussed various topics including their climate change-related work plans, the energy saving and carbon reduction activities that are already taking place in their businesses, and how to further strengthen energy saving and carbon emissions reduction.
The Government will continue to reach out to different sectors to encourage the community to adopt low-carbon living. The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, will chair the Climate Change Stakeholder Engagement Forum in July to tap the views of key stakeholders to facilitate formulation of Hong Kong's long-term climate strategy. Members of the public are welcome to provide views to the Environment Bureau through email to climatechange@epd.gov.hk or fax to 2838 2155 on or before August 20, 2016. More information about climate change is available at the Environmental Protection Department's website: www.epd.gov.hk/epd/english/climate_change/index.html.
