Officers of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) cracked down on illegal pig slaughtering activities and arrested a man during a raid at a tin-sheeted structure in Ma On Kong, Pat Heung, Yuen Long at noon today (June 16).
Officers found unstamped pig carcasses and pig offal, weighing about 100 kilograms. Some slaughtering tools were also seized in the operation.
A 47-year-old man suspected to be engaged in illegal slaughtering was arrested on the spot. He will later be charged with illegal slaughtering of food animals for human consumption.
"The FEHD will continue to take stringent enforcement action against illegal slaughtering activities and sale of meat from an unapproved source. Under the Slaughterhouses Regulation, (Cap 132BU), anyone operating an unlicensed slaughterhouse, slaughtering food animals illegally or possessing prohibited food commits an offence and is liable to a maximum fine of $50,000 and imprisonment for six months," a spokesman for the FEHD said.
"Anyone who discovers illegal slaughtering activities or has doubts about the origin of meat being sold at a retail outlet can report via 1823."
