Many Food Company Limited was fined $32,000 at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (June 16) for failure to pay wages amounting to about $65,000 to two employees within seven days after the expiry of their wage periods, as required by the Employment Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.00
A director of the said company was also prosecuted for the allegation that the wage offence was committed with his consent or connivance or was attributable to his neglect. The director concerned was convicted and fined $32,000.
"The judgment would disseminate a strong message to all employers, directors, managers, secretaries and other similar officers of companies that they have to pay wages to employees in accordance with the Employment Ordinance," a spokesman for the Labour Department said.
"The Labour Department does not tolerate the above offences and will spare no effort in enforcing the law and protecting employees' statutory rights," the spokesman added.
