Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected methamphetamine (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs today (May 27) seized about six kilograms of suspected methamphetamine and arrested a man during an anti-narcotics operation in Hung Hom.

     Later on, Customs officers escorted the arrested man for premises search in To Kwa Wan. About 260 grams of suspected methamphetamine were further seized. The market value of the drug seized in the entire operation was about $1.96 million.

     The arrested man, aged 26 and claimed to be unemployed, was charged with two counts of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (May 28).

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
