Young musicians from Chinese and string orchestras will perform an array of Chinese and Western pieces at the final two joint concerts to be presented by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in May.
The Chinese orchestra concert will be held at 3pm on May 8 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall. The performing groups will be the Music Office Children's Chinese Orchestra, the Island Youth Chinese Orchestra, the New Territories Youth Chinese Orchestra and the Kowloon Youth Chinese Orchestra. Conducted by Eddy Tse, Tsang Chi-wai, Bosco Kwok, Chan King-tsun, Li Ping, Carol Fong, Cheung Hiu-fai, Loo Sze-wang, Chin King and Cheung Wai-fung, the groups will play an array of works, including "Full Moon and Blossoming Flowers" arranged by Huang Yijun and Peng Xiuwen, "Concert Overture" by Yang Chunlin, "Rain Dance" by Kwan Nai-chung and "Listening to the Wind Singing Under the Bright Moonlight" by Chung Yiu-kwong.
The string orchestra concert will be held at 3pm on May 15 (Sunday) at the Theatre of the Ko Shan Theatre. The performing groups will be the Island Youth Strings, the Kowloon Youth Strings and the New Territories Youth Strings. An array of works, including selections from "Symphony No. 9, From The New World 1st movement" by Dvořák, Britten's "Simple Symphony, 1st movement" and "Dance Bacchanale" selected from Saint-Saëns' "Samson and Delilah", will be showcased under the batons of conductors Bethany Ng, Lau Yeung-chit, Tsang Yin-yu, Chan Tat-kwong, Fung Lo and Cheung Ching-ting.
