The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The spokesman for the Hospital Authority (HA) made the following announcement today (April 11) regarding an incident of malfunctioning of the Clinical Management System (CMS) in public hospitals:
Due to a system software problem in the database server engine and the application server platform, the HA CMS was out of service at 12.55pm today. During the system downtime, the healthcare workers could not use the CMS for retrieving and entering patient clinical data during consultation service.
During the system malfunction period, the queuing time for patient consultation was longer than usual. However, pathological tests, radiological examinations and pharmacy dispensing service were not affected.
Following an urgent system fix, the CMS resumed normal service at 1.15pm for all HA hospitals and clinics, except that for Prince of Wales Hospital which resumed later at 2.20pm.
After initial investigation, the clinical management and integrity of patient clinical data were not affected during the system downtime. However, overall patient service efficiency and convenience have been affected. The HA will conduct an in-depth investigation to identify the root cause of the incident. The HA would like to extend an apology to patients for any inconvenience caused.
