CS inspects environmental hygiene conditions of "three nil" buildings (with photos)
************************************************************

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, this afternoon (August 13) visited "three nil" buildings in Sham Shui Po District to see for herself the work of District Offices in assisting to improve the environmental hygiene conditions of the common areas of "three nil" buildings under the "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign.

Mrs Lam first inspected a "three nil" building where cleaning operations had just completed. Accompanied by the Deputy Director of Home Affairs, Mr Jack Chan, and the District Officer (Sham Shui Po), Mr Benjamin Mok, Mrs Lam talked to the cleaning workers to know more about their daily duties. She praised the workers for their assistance in improving the environmental hygiene conditions of "three nil" buildings. She was also pleased to note that residents were supportive of the work.

Mrs Lam later visited a "three nil" building where cleaning work will soon commence to inspect the environmental hygiene conditions of its rooftop and staircase. She said that in the absence of owners' corporations (OCs), residents' organisations and property management companies, environmental hygiene conditions of "three nil" buildings were often unsatisfactory. In addition to improving the environmental hygiene conditions, the cleaning services provided for the common areas in "three nil" buildings under the "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign can help reduce potential risks to safety.

Mrs Lam also took the opportunity to visit the chairman of a newly established OC, who is more than 80 years old. The chairman shared his experience in setting up the OC and the OC's efforts in raising the standard of building management.

Mrs Lam said after the visit that in order to keep our living environment clean and hygienic, in addition to the efforts of government departments, every citizen has the responsibility to keep Hong Kong clean and should work together with the Government, community bodies and relevant groups.
