Hong Kong Youth Music Camp participants to showcase their musical achievements
**********************************************************

More than 400 young musicians who have recently received intensive training at the 2015 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp will perform at two concerts in July to showcase their musical achievements.

Presented by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the two 2015 Youth Music Camp Concerts will be held at 3pm on July 19 (Sunday) at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and 3pm on July 26 (Sunday) at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong City Hall. The concerts will be conducted by several acclaimed international maestros and will be part of the summer International Arts Carnival 2015.

The first concert will be performed by the Camp's Junior Chinese Orchestra, Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra. Highlights of the programme include the joyous and vibrant Chinese piece "Lanterns Show"; "Variations on a Korean Folk Song", themed on the Korean folk song "Arirang"; and the solemn and vigorous "Othello". The conductors are the Conductor of the Taipei Chanson Chamber Orchestra, Yu Hsin-yi; Professor of the College of Music at Yonsei University in Korea Chang Jun-hwa; and the Music Director of the Missouri Symphony and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra in the United States, Kirk Trevor.

The second concert will be conducted by Professor of choir conducting at the Latvian Academy of Music Romans Vanags; the Principal Cellist of the Eastern Symphony Orchestra in the United States, Dr Yu Ka-wai; and the Music Director and conductor of the Hsinchu City Youth Chinese Orchestra in Taiwan, Liu Chiang-pin. Under their batons, the Camp Youth Choir, Junior String Orchestra and Chinese Orchestra will perform wonderful music pieces, including "Choral Medley" from the American musical "West Side Story"; "Oblivion", arranged by Dr Yu for string ensemble this year and originally written by Ástor Piazzolla for the film "Henry IV"; and Wang I-yu's "Beiguan Impression", inspired by the traditional Beiguan music for festivities in Wang's hometown in Taiwan.

The Hong Kong Youth Music Camp is a major annual activity of the Music Office in summers and provides intensive training to musicians in a scenic campsite setting. Participants can also enjoy recreational and sports facilities at the camp and display their talent in the Hong Kong Youth Music Camp Concerts.
