Police yesterday (June 9) concluded a one-week territory-wide operation to remind drivers of goods vehicles of the importance of safe driving.
This was the latest in an ongoing series of operations conducted by the Police using enforcement to target moving traffic offences.
The operation resulted in the issue of 10 verbal warnings, 110 summonses and 1 332 fixed penalty tickets. Three good vehicles were suspected of violating safety requirements of the Road Traffic (Construction and Maintenance of Vehicles) Regulations and were sent to Motor Vehicle Examination Centre for further investigation.
Among the 1 442 summonses and fixed penalty tickets issued, 255 were issued for speeding, 194 for using hand-held mobile phone while driving, 144 for seatbelt-related offences, 66 for failing to comply with traffic light signals and 55 for overloading offences.
