SFST to visit Canada and US

     The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, will visit Ottawa, Toronto, Washington DC and San Francisco from Sunday (April 27) to May 3 to strengthen Hong Kong's ties with Canada and the United States.

     During his visit, Professor Chan will meet with officials of financial regulators and prominent figures of financial institutions in the two countries, including the Canadian Department of Finance, the Bank of Canada, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the US Federal Reserve Board, the US Department of the Treasury and the US Securities and the Exchange Commission.

     He will also pay courtesy calls on the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Canada, Mr Zhang Junsai, and the Mayor of San Francisco, Mr Edwin Lee.

     In Toronto and San Francisco, Professor Chan will give keynote speeches on Hong Kong's financial market and Hong Kong's role as an offshore Renminbi centre respectively, and will join panel discussions with prominent local leaders in the financial services.

     Professor Chan will depart from San Francisco for Hong Kong on May 3.
