Winners of Hong Kong Flower Show plant exhibit competition announced (with photos)

     The winners of the Hong Kong Flower Show 2014 Plant Exhibit Competition were announced today (March 8).

     At the prize presentation ceremony today, two 2014 Hong Kong Flower Show Cups were awarded to the best exhibit in the Open Section and the School Section respectively. Mr Lee Tak-keung won the Open Section with his exquisite succulent plant, while students from Choi Wan St Joseph's Primary School won the School Section with a pot foliage plant.

     The winner of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) Western Style Garden Plot Competition was Tuen Mun District while the winner of the LCSD Oriental Style Garden Plot Competition was Wong Tai Sin District. The plant exhibit competition has been one of the most popular activities at the Hong Kong Flower Show.

     Organised by the LCSD, the flower show is being held at Victoria Park from now until March 16 from 9am to 9pm. This year's flower show is supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust as the Major Sponsor.

     The show's theme flower is the kalanchoe and the theme is "Blossoms of Joy". More than 350 000 flowering plants, among which are about 40 000 pots of kalanchoe in six species or cultivars, are on display.

     The event has attracted more than 200 organisations from 16 countries to take part in showcasing exquisite potted plants, beautiful floral arrangements and gorgeous landscape displays, transforming Victoria Park into a colourful wonderland.

     A rich diversity of educational and recreational fringe activities have also been organised for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages at the flower show. These include music and cultural performances, floral art demonstrations, cooking demonstrations, green activities workshops, green stalls, guided visits, recreation programmes and fun games.

     Admission tickets are being sold at the entrance to the Victoria Park showground throughout the show period. Octopus can be used to pay for admission. Admission tickets are also available at the LCSD's District Leisure Services Offices and leisure venues with Leisure Link services, except for water sports centres and holiday camps.

     Admission fees for the flower show are as follows:

* Normal rate: $14
* Children, students and senior citizens aged 60 or above: $7
* Persons with disabilities and their minders (each person can enjoy the concessionary rate with one minder only): $7

     Concessionary rate from Monday to Friday:

* Free admission for senior citizens aged 60 or above.
* Free admission for persons with disabilities and their minders (each person can enjoy the concessionary rate with one minder only).
* Adults in a group of 30 persons or above will be admitted at half rate.
