The Education Bureau (EDB) today (November 27) announced that the EDB and the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) have jointly launched the School Survey on New Senior Secondary (NSS) Curriculum and Assessment.
The School Survey is part of the continuous partnership and stakeholder engagement process in reviewing the New Academic Structure (NAS) with a view to improving and fine-tuning the delivery of the NAS. Based on valuable feedback and suggestions collected during the last four months through various channels, such as forums, meetings, focus group interviews and written submissions, initial recommendations on addressing the practical concerns of schools have been formulated.
A spokesman for the EDB said, "This survey is part of the NSS review at the short-term stage, addressing the more practical concerns of schools, as well as fine-tuning and enhancing the implementation of the curriculum and assessment to facilitate student learning and collect information that helps advise future study or career planning. At the medium to long-term stages, matters requiring more data collection and deliberation will be discussed subject to the feedback received.
"Recommendations for the short-term stage are expected to be announced in early 2013 following the Joint Curriculum Development Council-HKEAA Public Examinations Board meeting," he added.
The questionnaire consists of two parts. Part 1 collects views from school principals on recommendations regarding the system and school-level issues, responding to concerns such as School-based Assessment (SBA), Other Learning Experiences (OLE), lesson time, Applied Learning, catering for learner diversity as well as support measures and communication. Part 2 collects views from the subject panel head of each NSS subject on the initial recommendations for the subject curriculum, public examination and SBA.
A briefing session will be held on December 6, 2012 for school leaders to explain the recommendations and collect feedback. Teacher consultation forums (Part 2) are being held for all the 24 NSS subjects and Applied Learning from mid-November to mid-December. School principals and teachers are encouraged to contribute their professional advice and collaboration in responding to the survey in the best interests of students and schools. The public can obtain the questionnaires (English version) from the designated NAS review website (www.edb.gov.hk/nas/review). The Chinese version will be uploaded later this month. Meanwhile, the EDB and HKEAA have been continuously collecting feedback from parents, students, NGOs, professional organisations, tertiary institutions and employers through other channels for consideration in making appropriate recommendations.
