The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is today (November 22) investigating a case of Legionnaires' Disease involving a 63-year-old man.
The patient with chronic illness presented with fever and shortness of breath since November 17 and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Princess Margaret Hospital on November 20. He is currently in serious condition.
His urine sample tested positive for serogroup 1 Legionella pneumophilia antigen.
The patient travelled to Zhejiang Province between November 8 and 11. His family contact is asymptomatic. Investigations by the CHP are under way.
This is the 24th case of Legionnaires' Disease reported to the CHP this year. Seventeen cases were filed in 2011, 20 in 2010 and 37 in 2009.
