The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, together with the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, and the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Mr Edward Yau, held a meeting with the District Council chairmen this morning (August 17). A lunch followed the meeting.

Mrs Lam briefed the meeting on the policy priorities of the Fourth Term Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the livelihood measures announced by the Chief Executive on July 16, as well as listened to the views of the District Council chairmen on the needs and concerns of individual districts.

The District Council chairmen who attended the meeting put forward a number of suggestions, such as strengthening communication between District Councils and the Government on policy issues, enhancing the functions of District Councils in monitoring district administration, allocating more resources to District Councils for provision of district services and facilitating District Councils to carry out different livelihood and economic projects on a district basis to meet local needs.

"The Chief Executive suggested in his manifesto to strengthen district administration and to enhance the functions of the District Councils. He also emphasised 'tackling community issues to be resolved at a district level and seizing local opportunities'. We consider the District Councils as important partners in policy administration. I thank all District Council chairmen for their valuable opinions. I hope today's meeting marks a good start for our close co-operation in the future," Mrs Lam said.
