The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, today (August 16) welcomed the appointment of Ms Gilly Wong Fung-han as the new Chief Executive of the Consumer Council with effect from November 16, succeeding Ms Connie Lau Yin-hing who will retire from the same date after serving in the Consumer Council for 38 years.
The Consumer Council has just made the announcement of the new appointment.
Mr So said, "Ms Wong has ample management experience in the private sector and is currently working in the Hong Kong Tourism Board in the area of promotion of MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions). Ms Wong is well placed to lead the management team of the Consumer Council."
He added, "I look forward to working closely with Ms Wong and partnering with the Consumer Council under her leadership in furthering consumer rights."
Mr So also paid tribute to the invaluable contributions of outgoing Chief Executive Ms Lau to the cause of consumer protection.
"Ms Lau's work in the Consumer Council has been most outstanding. Her efforts in promoting and protecting consumer rights are recognised not only in Hong Kong but also in the international arena. She is currently a member of the Council and the Executive Committee of Consumers International, an international federation of consumer organisations. I wish her the same success in her future endeavours," said Mr So.
