The choreographer of the opening ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic Games, Kenrick "H2O" Sandy, will come to Hong Kong next week with his trend-setting hip-hop dance company Boy Blue Entertainment (BBE) from the UK to get up close and personal with Hong Kong audiences in the upcoming performance "Touch". Together with composer Michael "Mikey J" Asante, BBE will bring funky beats and electrifying street dance to the stage.
"Touch" is one of the highlights of the large-scale summer festival International Arts Carnival presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The hip-hop dance production will be staged from August 10 to 12.
Acclaimed for presenting "the perfect marriage of music and dance" by the Just Elemental Music blog, BBE releases boundless creative energy in its performances, laying down the beats and delivering thrilling and raw dance sequences.
BBE was founded in London in 2001 by choreographer Sandy and music producer Asante, and is today a unique company consisting of some of the UK's most sought-after hip-hop artists. The dance company is known for its exciting and engaging explosions of movement and music, and both artistic directors have collaborated with many top celebrities and were involved in the popular British film "Street Dance 3D".
BBE, which won the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for its production "Pied Piper", is one of the most accomplished hip-hop dance companies in the UK. It also won Best Dance Act in the 2010 Black Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television and Arts Awards, and was invited to become the Artistic Associate of the Barbican Centre in London.
"Touch" will be staged on August 10 and 11 at 7.30pm, and on August 12 at 3pm, at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Studio Theatre. Tickets priced at $160 and $220 are now available at URBTIX.
Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens, people with disabilities and their minders, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Booking discounts of up to 20 per cent are available for full-price performing arts/film programmes.
