Following is a transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Development, Mr Mak Chai-kwong, at a media session after attending a radio interview this morning (July 6):
Reporter: I know you think you haven't done anything wrong but then you can't really stop the public from thinking that your reputation might have been tarnished by this incident. Will it make your work more difficult? Is it worthwhile to stay on?
Secretary for Development: I hope I have explained sufficiently clearly that I have followed, or I have not violated, any regulation regarding the private tenancy allowance. In fact, this happened some 25 years ago. In those days, I had no intention and no plan to be a Principal Official. Looking back, I think I have done my very best when I was in the civil service. And now I have taken up this post, I will continue to do my best and I hope this matter could have been clarified by what I said just now.
