The lecture is co-organised with the Hong Kong Science Museum. The RGC has invited Professor Chu Ming-chung of the Department of Physics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Professor Chan Kwing-lam of the Department of Mathematics and Center for Space Science Research at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to share their research findings and knowledge with the public. Details are as follows:
Time: 2.30pm to 4.30pm
Venue: Lecture Hall, Hong Kong Science Museum
Language: Cantonese
Free admission on a first-come, first-served basis.
Professor Chu will give a talk entitled "New Developments in Cosmology". The talk will introduce developments in cosmological observation and highlight some enquiries into the revolution of the universe. Topics such as the condition of the universe in relation to the Big Bang, dark matter and dark energy will be covered.
Professor Chan will deliver a lecture entitled "Microwave Observations of the Moon". The lecture will introduce findings of China's Chang'e-1, the first spacecraft that carried a microwave radiometer to study the moon in circumlunar orbit. Interpretations and scientific analysis of the microwave data of the moon will be discussed.
Since 2009, leading scholars in their respective fields have been invited to deliver public lectures organised by the RGC. These lectures aim at arousing the public's interest in local research development.
