A 48-year-old Canadian man was sentenced to three years and three months imprisonment at the District Court today (January 10) after being convicted of one count of conspiracy to defraud.
The court heard that the defendant was a general manager of an investment company. The company was falsely represented having been authorized by a US listed company to promote a 䩕Private Equity蒅. Five investors had been deceived to invest a total of $510,000 in the fraudulent scheme.
After investigation, Police arrested the man in Tsim Sha Tsui in July 2011. He was subsequently charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud. He was later convicted on December 23, 2011 at the District Court and sentences were handed down today.
