CE to attend China-Eurasia Expo

     The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, will leave for Urumqi, Xinjiang, on August 31 to attend the first China-Eurasia Expo.

     During the visit, Mr Tsang will attend the opening ceremony and meet with the Minister of Commerce, Mr Chen Deming; the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Mr Zhang Chunxian; and the Chairman of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Mr Nur Bekri. Mr Tsang will also deliver a speech at the China-Eurasia Economic Development and Co-operation Forum.

     As a major source of foreign investment in Xinjiang, Hong Kong has invested in a wide range of projects in the region, which serves a strategic function as the Eurasian Continental Bridge. Growing bilateral economic ties will enable Hong Kong enterprises to expand their businesses into the emerging markets in Central, Western and Southern Asia.

     Mr Tsang will return to Hong Kong in the evening of September 2. During his absence, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, will be the Acting Chief Executive.
