A record high of more than 3.55 million registered electors are carried in the 2011 provisional register for geographical constituencies, a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (August 14).
"There are about 203 000 newly registered electors for geographical constituencies. After deducting electors who had passed away or not reported their latest residential addresses to the REO, there is a net increase of about 127 000 electors over the 2010's figure," the spokesman added.
A net increase of about 17 000 electors over last year's count is also recorded in the provisional register for functional constituencies, bringing the total number of electors to about 243 000.
For the Election Committee subsectors, about 249 000 voters are listed in the provisional register, representing a net increase of about 19 000 over the previous year's figure.
More statistical information about these provisional registers will be available at the voter registration website (www.voterregistration.gov.hk) tomorrow (August 15).
The provisional registers and omissions lists for the geographical constituencies, functional constituencies and Election Committee subsectors will be released tomorrow for public inspection until August 29.
"The respective provisional registers include all validated applications for registration as electors and applications for changes of particulars received by the REO. For those who are no longer eligible for registration, their names are removed from the respective registers and recorded in the omissions lists," the spokesman said.
Anyone who has applied to register but does not find his name in the relevant register, or whose name is included in an omissions list, or who finds his entries incorrectly recorded, may lodge a notice of claim in person with the REO by August 29.
Anyone who considers that a person is not eligible to be registered may lodge a notice of objection in person with the REO also by August 29.
Specified forms for claims and objections can be obtained from the REO or downloaded from its website (www.reo.gov.hk/en/voter/application.htm). Copies are also available at District Offices.
The spokesman also reminded those on the provisional registers to report to the REO by August 29 any changes in addresses or other registration particulars.
For the geographical constituencies, full copies of the provisional register can be inspected during ordinary business hours from Monday to Friday at the REO at 10/F Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai. The relevant section of the register pertinent to a particular district will also be available at the respective District Office. As regards the geographical constituencies omissions list, full copies will be available for public inspection at the REO's Harbour Centre office and the various District Offices.
For functional constituencies and Election Committee subsectors, full copies of the provisional registers and omissions lists will be available for public inspection at the REO's Harbour Centre office and its office at 10/F Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, as well as at District Offices in Central, Mong Kok, Kwun Tong, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan.
Members of the public may also call the REO hotline on 2891 1001 to check whether their names are listed in the provisional registers or the omissions lists.
The REO will publish the final registers of electors on or before September 25.
