The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (March 29) awarded a $100.8 million design and construction supervision consultancy agreement for the site formation and infrastructure works of the Liantang-Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point (BCP).
Speaking after the contract signing ceremony, the Director of Civil Engineering and Development, Mr Hon Chi-keung, said the commencement of the design for these works represented a major milestone for the project, which is of strategic importance in Hong Kong's long-term economic growth.
This BCP, one of the seven "Important Items on Guangdong/Hong Kong/Macau Co-operation" under the National 12th Five-Year Plan, is strategically important because it will enhance the connectivity and accessibility of the eastern part of Hong Kong and Shenzhen, and shorten the distance and travelling time to the eastern part of Guangdong province as well as Fujian and Jiangxi provinces.
This agreement will bring about the formation of about 23 hectares of land for the development of the new BCP at Ta Kwu Ling and an approximately 11-kilometre long dual two-lane connecting road linking the BCP to Fanling Highway. The connecting road will also provide convenient access to local road networks and the proposed Ping Che/Ta Kwu Ling New Development Area, and hence improve the overall transport network in the North-eastern New Territories.
Construction works under the project are scheduled to commence in 2013 for commissioning the BCP by 2018.
