Crowd management and traffic measures for Che Kung Festival

     Police will implement special crowd management and traffic arrangements to facilitate worshippers visiting Che Kung Temple in Sha Tin during the Che Kung Festival period.

     "A one-way pedestrian flow system between both MTR Tai Wai Station/MTR Che Kung Temple Station and the temple will be implemented throughout the Lunar New Year peak period to ensure the safety of the public. Worshippers are advised to be patient while waiting in a queue," a Police spokesman said.

     As huge crowds of worshippers are expected, the following traffic arrangements will be implemented:

     The following traffic arrangements will be in effect between 8pm on January 27 and 6pm on January 28:

(1) Taxis and private buses will not be allowed to enter Chui Tin Street. The taxi picking-up and drop-off area on MTR Che Kung Temple Station service road will be suspended. Taxi passengers can only alight on Sha Tin Tau Road near Che Kung Temple;

(2) The inner lane of southbound Chui Tin Street between Che Kung Miu Road and the entrance of Sun Chui Estate will be closed, except for emergency vehicles;

(3) The inner lane of westbound Che Kung Miu Road between Sha Tin Tau Road and Chui Tin Street will be closed, except for emergency vehicles;

(4) Taxis, public light buses and private cars arriving from the westbound carriageway of Che Kung Miu Road will be directed into Sha Tin Tau Road and permitted to drop off passengers at its junction with Che Kung Miu Road; and

(5) The pedestrian crossing at the junction of Che Kung Miu Road with Sha Tin Tau Road will be closed when the situation warrants. Public members will be directed to use the pavement by the riverside to the Temple.

     The Chui Tin Street public carpark adjacent to the Temple will be closed to all vehicles, except for emergency and authorised vehicles, between 7am on January 25 and 8pm on January 28.

     Strict enforcement action, including towing without warning, will be taken against vehicles that are illegally parked.

    Public members are advised to make use of public transport as far as possible and should take heed of the instructions of police officers at the scene.
