****************************************************

The "Hong Kong Youth 3D Animation Competition 2008", jointly organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (Cyberport) and Hong Kong New Generation Culture Association (HKNGCA) Science Innovation Centre, is now open for registration.

"The objectives of the competition are to enhance the interest of the younger generation in technology and design and to nurture more innovative talent," an ITC spokesman said.

"With the rapid development of information technology, there has been growing interest in digital entertainment and 3D animation particularly among youngsters. The competition will help further promote 3D animation technology in the community and identify talent."

To help youngsters to master the skills of animation and showcase their potential, participants will be provided with training on the use of 3D software in July and August. During the competition period, all participants can use the 3D software, provided by Autodesk, the official software provider, for free.

Winners of the competition will attend a more in-depth training programme in December.  Moreover, winners in the Primary Category (aged under 14) will be nominated to participate in the China Adolescents Science Technology Invention Contest 2009 Science Fantasy Drawing Division, competing with students from various provinces on the Mainland.

Themed "Space Games 2108", the competition is open to all primary and secondary school students. The deadline for registration is May 9 while the deadline for submission of entries is October 8.  Final adjudication and prize presentation will be held during the Innovation Festival scheduled for late October.
