The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 3) pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $7,900 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF surcharges by his employer.
The defendant, Compass Group Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $7,969.80, being surcharges payable to default contributions in arrears.
The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the defendant to pay costs of $176.
