Customs arrests suspected heroin courier (with photo)

    Customs officers at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (March 26) arrested a Filipino woman suspected of trafficking in 3.14 kilogrammes of heroin, with an estimated local retail value of $1.75 million.

    About 11.15am, customs officers intercepted the 33-year-old woman who had arrived from Manila in the Philippines.

    From a false compartment inside a luggage case they uncovered four packets of heroin weighing a total of 3.14 kilogrammes.   

    The arrested woman has been charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance. She will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates﷿ Courts tomorrow (March 28). 

    Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
