Arrival of the delegation of Ukrainian experts on investigation of an accident involving an Ukrainian ship

A delegation led by the Vice Minister of Transport and Communication of Ukraine, Mr Shevchenko Vasyl' Vasylyovych, arrived in Hong Kong this evening (March 25) to follow up on the accident leading to the sinking of an Ukrainian ship on March 22 in the waters off Lantau, a Marine Department spokesman said.

Upon their arrival, the Marine Department, Fire Services Department and relevant government officials briefed the delegation on the accident and action to locate the 18 missing crew.  Director of Marine assured the Vice Minister and the delegation that the HKSAR Government has done and will continue to do its utmost in the rescue and will facilitate the delegation in their follow up action.  The Minister thanked the HKSARG for their assistance and in particular the rescue officers for their untiring efforts in the rescue action.

In accordance with the rules of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Marine Department as the port state administration, and the Ukrainian Government as the flag state administration of the Ukrainian ship will fully co-operate in accordance with IMO requirements in the investigation into the cause of the collision.  The Marine Department will provide the delegation with all necessary assistance during their investigation.
