Police officers issued a total of 513 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 55 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7 pm today (January 23) and a total of 188 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 365 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 148 for other traffic offences.
Thirty-two pedestrians and 303 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.
Statistics revealed that a total of 3,069 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in Year 2006.
Of them, 53.8 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
