Swimming is a very good exercise and is popular with children. This year, swimming pool staff, including supervisors and lifeguards, of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department are playing a crucial role as Water Safety Ambassadors in teaching schoolchildren to take heed of water safety and keep pools clean.

They have arranged visits to swimming pools for primary school students during winter. They have also held seminars to teach schoolchildren about water safety and the importance of keeping pools clean.

The Water Safety Ambassador Scheme helps to enhance students' water safety knowledge and makes them understand the importance of water safety.

The Water Safety Ambassadors this month (January) started visiting schools and hosting seminars. Videos on pool hygiene were shown and experience sharing sessions by lifeguards were   held. More than 200 primary school students have attended the seminars. They listened carefully and showed interest in participating in water safety and pool hygiene games.

Forty primary school students visited Shing Mun Valley Swimming Pool yesterday (January 22) where Water Safety Ambassadors explained the measures and importance of keeping pools clean. They also demonstrated the steps of maintaining pool hygiene.

The Water Safety Ambassadors also gave lifesaving demonstrations. Participating students learnt water safety knowledge and skills such as throwing a line, using objects for rescue, and rescuing a person in Recovery Position. Those who passed the skill test were presented with a Water Safety Award with Badge and Certificate issued by the Hong Kong Life Saving Society.
