Two arrested in $1.5 million ecstasy haul

    Police Narcotics Bureau have smashed a drug trafficking syndicate and arrested two men aged 36 and 37 for trafficking in dangerous drugs tonight (January 20) following the seizure of $1.5 million worth of suspected ecstasy tablets in Sheung Shui.

The intelligence-based operation codenamed ä©•Drillbreakerč’… is aimed at curbing the trafficking and abuse of psychotropic drugs.

 At about 8 pm tonight, officers of the Narcotics Bureau stopped a private car with two men onboard outside Sheung Shui Town Centre on Chi Cheong Road.

A total of about 15,000 tablets of ecstasy, concealed in 15 teabag packages were found hidden inside a rucksack possessed by one of the men onboard the private car.

The haul could fetch about $1.5 million if sold in the local market. It was believed that the drugs seized are for distribution to local places of entertainment.

     The 36-year-old male driver and the 37-year-old male passenger of the private car are still being detained for enquiries.

     Investigations by Narcotics Bureau are continuing.
