************************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 10) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $35,000 on behalf of five employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At today's hearing, Coo International Limited trading as Takehachi Japanese Cuisine, did not dispute the amount claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $15,221.65, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other three defendants, King & Kim International Limited, Dexon Development Limited and Sy Ping Au trading as True-Luck Metal and Plastic Factory, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $7,106, $4,483.51 and $1,751.54, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable. The Adjudicator also ordered Sy Ping Au trading as True-Luck Metal and Plastic Factory to pay the MPFA the sum of $5,000 being financial penalty imposed by the MPFA for failure to make MPF contributions for employees.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $190, $180, $86 and $140 as the costs in respect of the claims.
