CSSA caseload for last December

    The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in December last year showed a decrease of 0.2% (469 cases) over November, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (January 10).

     Total CSSA caseload at the end of December stood at 295,333 (see attached table), with a total of 521,611 welfare recipients.  

     Analysed by case nature, the number of unemployment cases decreased by 1.1% to 37,819 cases.

     Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.2% in December to 38,449.

     Low earnings cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.6% in December to 18,257.
 
     Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $17.8 billion for 2005-06.
