SCS visits Southern District (with photos)
******************************************

Secretary for the Civil Service Miss Denise Yue visited the Southern District this afternoon (January 9) to gain a better understanding of the latest developments in the district.

Accompanied by the District Officer (Southern), Miss Eva Yam, Miss Yue first went to the Stanley Main Beach Water Sports Centre, where she was briefed on the centre's operation and the improvement works to be conducted there later this year.

When the improvement works are completed, the various facilities at the Centre will be on par with the required standards for holding international sports events, such as the 2009 East Asian Games. At the Water Sports Centre, Miss Yue took the opportunity to chat with some of the learners now under training in sailing.

At Murray House in Stanley, Miss Yue saw the latest progress of the Stanley Waterfront Improvement Project.

The improvement works include re-paving of footpaths and carriageways along the waterfront promenade, construction of a pier outside Murray House for leisure ferries and tour service vessels, and extension of the waterfront promenade outside Stanley Main Street.

Walking along the waterfront mart, Sui Sin Temple and Pat Kan, Miss Yue said she was glad that the improvement project helped beautify the waterfront area which had already attracted more tourists.

The final stop of her visit was the Stanley Complex. She toured around the modern designed community hall, arena and library and chatted with staff and members of the public using the facilities.
