Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital diarrhoea cases update

    The spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement today:

     Since January 3, 2007, three patients (aged 69 to 89) and one staff member in a male medical ward were found to have symptom of diarrhoea.

     In addition, in the geriatric medical ward in which there were patients with diarrhoea and/or vomiting symptoms earlier, there are two more male patients (aged 91 and 94) and one staff member found to have symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting today.

     All patients are being treated in isolation and all are in stable condition. Staff members are now on sick leave. Appropriate tests are being carried out and results are pending.

     PYNEH has stepped up infection control measures in the wards. Admission and visiting arrangement to the concerned wards are suspended.

     PYNEH will continue to monitor the situation.  The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and Centre for Health Protection.
