Countdown Carnival at Sha Tin tonight
*************************************

Tens of thousands of people poured into Sha Tin tonight (December 31) to take part in the New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival.

The carnival, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, kicked off at 8.30pm and will run until 12.30am tomorrow (January 1), at Sha Tin Park, Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza and Podium.

The Italian-style countdown castle in Sha Tin Park is proving popular with the crowds. "European nobles", musicians and jugglers are entertaining revellers as they count down the hours until midnight.

The castle will also be open to the public from 6pm to 10pm tomorrow.

At Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza, TOYS Theatre from Russia presented simple stories with music, dance, body movement and clown performances.

Having performed in the Opening Ceremony of the Turin Winter Olympics 2006, the Katakl㫳 Athletic Dance Theatre from Italy amazed members of the public with their original choreography and music. A re-run of Katakl㫳 Athletic Dance Theatre will also be held tomorrow from 8pm to 9pm.

Members of the public also enjoyed the rhythm and passion of tap dance and flamenco. Pipe and drum performances added excitement to the carnival, while clown, magic and acrobatic performances were also favourites for families.

Roving artists in gorgeous costumes were also popular, greeting visitors and wishing them a happy new year.
