Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital diarrhoea cases update

    Regarding the female psycho-geriatric ward at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) in which there were three patients with diarrhoea, PYNEH made the following announcement today (December 29):

     Today, two more patients in the ward (aged 71 to 87) were found to have symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting. All five patients are being treated in isolation and are in a stable condition. Tests are being carried out and results are pending. PYNEH has stepped up infection control measures in the ward and will continue to monitor the situation. Admission to the ward and visiting are both suspended.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and Centre for Health Protection.
