Acting FS speaks on telecoms services disruptions
*************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks (English portion) by the Acting Financial Secretary, Mr Stephen Ip, on telecoms services disruptions at the Central Government Offices this morning (December 28):

Reporter: Do you think Hong Kong can improve in dealing with the Internet breakdown?

Acting Financial Secretary: I think it is important for the cable operators, the Internet service providers, the Government, OFTA, and the telecommunications companies to consider what happened and see what we need to do to improve the situation. For example, whether we need to consider other alternatives, better back-up systems, through other means such as satellite transmission. Also, on the release of information, service providers, cable operators will need to work together with OFTA to see how we can keep the public informed as early as possible.

(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the transcript.)
