With the persistent high demand for type A and type O blood and the Christmas and New Year Holidays, the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service has appealed to people with type A or O blood groups to donate as soon as possible.
"In addition to the regular daily requirement of 700 donations, we need an extra 50 donors each for type A and O blood groups, to donate every day during the holiday period to ensure an adequate supply," a Blood Transfusion Service spokesman said today (December 22) .
As a gesture to express the gratitude and good wishes of patients, donors giving blood during the period December 22 to 31 will receive a Christmas sweet pack.
Some Blood Donor Centres will provide service during Christmas holidays (see the appendix).
