Tung Wah Eastern Hospital Norovirus cases update

    Regarding a male geriatric ward in Tung Wah Eastern Hospital (TWEH) in which there were seven patients and five staff member with vomiting, diarrhoea and fever symptoms, the hospital spokesperson has the following update today (December 21):

     There is one more patient, aged 73, presented with vomiting and diarrhea symptoms.  All patients are being treated under isolation and they are in stable condition.  TWEH has arranged appropriate tests for the concerned patients.  Four of them are positive to Norovirus while other results are pending.  One staff member is now on sick leave while the others have recovered.

     Admission and visiting to the ward have been suspended.  Infection control measures have also been stepped up.  All patients and staff of the ward are under close surveillance.

     TWEH Infection Control Team has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
