************************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (December 21) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $100,000 on behalf of nine employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At today's hearing, the defendants, Ming Wah Foundations Limited and Shum Yuen Leung Barry trading as Wing Lam Label Printing Company, did not dispute the amounts claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $38,092.3 and $29,849.29, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other three defendants - Fan Wai Tong trading as Hop Kee Roasted Meat, Dickson Construction (Housing) Limited and Pattern Enterprises (International) Limited - did not appear at today's hearing.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $23,355.28, $7,607.25 and $3,150, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA.  The court further awarded payments of $292, $180, $190, $180 and $180 as the costs in respect of the claims.
