Test results on freshwater fish
*******************************

Results of tests on 10 freshwater fish samples showed that they were all free from malachite green, nitrofurans and chloramphenicol.

The samples were taken following the resumption of Mainland freshwater fish supply to Hong Kong, a spokesman for the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) said today (December 20).

The spokesman also said about 190 fishing vessels had been intercepted in the past week as the Centre stepped up inspections of fishing vessels with the Customs and Excise Department and the Police.

During the joint operations, two Mainland vessels - one loaded with 90 kilogrammes and the other with 70 kilogrammes of freshwater fish - were intercepted. The fish loads were not accompanied with health certificates and had been disposed of.

"The CFS will make every effort to combat fish products coming to Hong Kong from improper channels," the spokesman said.
